1. Description

Polyurethane Catalyst QHA-H30 is a high-efficiency, multi-functional tertiary amine catalyst, primarily composed of 2,4,6-Tris(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol. It is a pale yellow to amber viscous liquid with a slight characteristic odor, featuring strong catalytic activity and excellent chemical stability, specifically engineered for polyurethane (PU) foam manufacturing, epoxy resin curing, and other industrial applications.

QHA-H30 exhibits unique dual catalytic properties: it acts as a strong accelerator for the gelation reaction (polyol-isocyanate crosslinking) in PU systems, while also promoting the blowing reaction (isocyanate-water interaction), effectively balancing reaction kinetics to ensure stable foam rise, uniform cell structure, and enhanced mechanical properties of the final product. It has superior compatibility with mainstream PU raw materials, including polyether polyols, polyester polyols, isocyanates, and other auxiliary additives. Additionally, QHA-H30 serves as a high-performance curing accelerator for epoxy resins, widely used in composite materials, adhesives, and coatings due to its ability to shorten curing time and improve product performance.

Note: The above values are typical quality control results and do not constitute a binding sales specification. Slight batch-to-batch variations within acceptable industrial limits are normal and do not affect product performance. CAS No. 90-72-2 is the unique identifier for the active ingredient 2,4,6-Tris(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol. The product may darken slightly during storage without affecting its catalytic activity.

3. Application

Polyurethane Catalyst QHA-H30 is a versatile, high-performance catalyst with broad applicability, mainly focused on polyurethane foam production, epoxy resin curing, and other industrial fields, with core advantages in strong catalytic activity and dual functionality:

  • Polyurethane Rigid Foams: Widely used in insulation foam formulations such as building exterior insulation panels, on-site spray foam insulation, refrigeration equipment (refrigerators, freezers) insulation layers, and refrigerated truck insulation. It accelerates gelation, ensures uniform cell structure, and enhances the foam’s thermal insulation performance and mechanical strength.
  • Polyurethane Flexible & Semi-Rigid Foams: Used as an auxiliary catalyst in molded flexible foams (automotive seats, furniture cushions) and semi-rigid foams, adjusting reaction kinetics to improve product flexibility, resilience, and dimensional stability, especially suitable for high-density flexible foam formulations.
  • Epoxy Resin Curing: A core application, serving as a curing accelerator for epoxy resin systems (epoxy-amine, epoxy-acid anhydride systems), widely used in epoxy adhesives, electronic potting materials, composite materials, and epoxy floor coatings. It shortens curing time at room temperature or low temperature and improves the toughness and adhesion of the cured product.
  • PU Adhesives & Sealants: Applied in polyurethane adhesives and sealants, accelerating curing speed, enhancing bond strength, and improving the product’s resistance to water, oil, and chemicals.
  • Other Fields: Used as a catalyst in organic synthesis reactions, a corrosion inhibitor in metal processing, and an intermediate in the production of quaternary ammonium salts and surfactants.
  • It can be used alone as the main catalyst or blended with other amine catalysts (such as DMCHA, TEDA) to fine-tune reaction rates. The recommended dosage is 0.1–1.0% based on the weight of polyol in PU foam formulations, and 0.5–3.0% based on the weight of epoxy resin in epoxy systems, depending on specific application requirements.

4. Storage & Handling

Storage Conditions

  • Store in sealed original containers (25kg/drum, 180kg/drum, 200kg/drum or IBC drum) in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, open flames, and static electricity. The recommended storage temperature is 5–30°C; avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures (above 40°C) to prevent viscosity increase and performance degradation.
  • Keep the product isolated from strong acids, oxidizing agents, and moisture to prevent chemical reactions, performance degradation, or contamination. For long-term storage, containers can be filled with nitrogen to avoid oxidation.
  • Storage areas must be equipped with spill containment facilities and emergency response materials (adsorption materials, neutralizers such as dilute acetic acid) to handle potential leaks, and comply with local chemical safety and environmental regulations. The product is classified as a corrosive liquid, so corrosion protection measures should be strictly implemented.

Shelf Life & Handling Precautions

  • Unopened shelf life: 12 months under recommended storage conditions. Conduct performance testing prior to use if expired. Once opened, use the product within 3 months and reseal tightly after each use to prevent moisture absorption and oxidation.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during handling, including chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, a protective coat, and anti-static shoes. Operate in a well-ventilated area or fume hood to avoid inhalation of vapors; use an air-purifying respirator for high-concentration operations. The product is corrosive and irritating to skin, eyes, and respiratory tract.
  • In case of accidental contact: Flush skin or eyes with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes; seek medical attention promptly if irritation persists. In case of leakage, evacuate personnel, cut off fire sources, cover the spill with adsorption materials (such as diatomaceous earth or sand), neutralize with dilute acid if necessary, and dispose of waste in accordance with local hazardous waste regulations.
  • Dispose of empty containers and waste liquid properly: clean empty containers thoroughly before disposal, and send waste liquid to a professional hazardous waste treatment agency to avoid environmental pollution. Do not pour directly into water bodies or sewers.
