Catalyst QHA-H5 (PMDETA) Product Data Sheet
Product Name: QHA-H5 | Chemical Name: Pentamethyldiethylenetriamine | CAS No.: 3030-47-5
Product Category: Tertiary Amine Polyurethane Catalyst | Molecular Formula: C₉H₂₃N₃
1. Description
Catalyst QHA-H5 is a high-efficiency, multi-functional tertiary amine catalyst, primarily composed of pentamethyldiethylenetriamine, specifically developed for polyurethane (PU) foam manufacturing and related industrial applications. It is a low-viscosity, clear liquid catalyst with strong catalytic activity, specifically accelerating the blowing reaction (isocyanate-water interaction) in PU systems, while providing moderate promotion for the gelation reaction (polyol-isocyanate crosslinking).
This product boasts high purity, excellent chemical stability, and superior compatibility with mainstream PU raw materials, including polyether polyols, polyester polyols, isocyanates, and other auxiliary additives. Its unique molecular structure enables it to effectively regulate foam rise speed, ensure uniform cell structure, and reduce common processing defects such as foam collapse and shrinkage. Beyond PU applications, QHA-H5 also serves as a versatile intermediate in organic synthesis, epoxy resin curing acceleration, and metal complexation.
2. Specification

3. Application
Catalyst QHA-H5 is a versatile, high-performance catalyst with broad applicability, mainly focused on polyurethane foam production and other industrial fields:
- Flexible Polyurethane Foams: The core application, widely used in slabstock foams (mattresses, furniture cushions, bedding) and molded flexible foams (automotive seats, headrests). It accelerates the blowing reaction, ensures uniform cell distribution, and improves foam softness, resilience, and dimensional stability.
- Rigid Polyurethane Foams: Used as an auxiliary catalyst in rigid insulation foams (building insulation, refrigeration equipment insulation, spray foam), adjusting reaction kinetics to enhance foam thermal insulation performance and structural integrity.
- Microcellular & Integral Skin Foams: Applied in microcellular foam (shoe soles) and integral skin foam (automotive interior trim, handgrips) formulations, promoting fine cell structure and smooth surface finish.
- Organic Synthesis & Epoxy Resins: Serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and dyes; also acts as an epoxy resin curing accelerator, shortening curing time and improving film performance.
- Other Fields: Used as a metal complexing agent, corrosion inhibitor, and fuel oil additive to improve product stability and performance.
- It can be used alone or blended with other amine catalysts to fine-tune reaction rates. The recommended dosage is 0.1–1.0% based on the weight of polyol in PU foam formulations, depending on the specific foam type and performance requirements.
4. Storage & Handling
Storage Conditions
- Store in sealed original containers (170kg/drum or 20L/drum) in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, open flames, and static electricity. The recommended storage temperature is 5–30°C.
- Keep the product isolated from strong acids, oxidizing agents, and moisture to prevent chemical reactions, performance degradation, or contamination. Avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures to prevent volatilization.
- Storage areas must be equipped with spill containment facilities and emergency response materials (adsorption materials, neutralizers) to handle potential leaks, and comply with local chemical safety regulations.
Shelf Life & Handling Precautions
- Unopened shelf life: 12 months under recommended storage conditions. Conduct performance testing prior to use if expired. Once opened, use the product within 3 months and reseal tightly after each use.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during handling, including chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and a protective coat. Avoid skin, eye, and respiratory contact; ensure good ventilation in the operation area.
- In case of accidental contact: Flush skin or eyes with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes; seek medical attention promptly if irritation persists. In case of leakage, contain the spill with adsorption materials and dispose of waste in accordance with local hazardous waste regulations.
- Dispose of empty containers and waste liquid properly: clean empty containers thoroughly before disposal, and send waste liquid to a professional hazardous waste treatment agency.
