Core Trait: Balanced Gel-Blow Catalyst for Rigid & Flexible PU Foam Systems

1. Description

QHAD-A38 is a high-performance liquid tertiary amine catalyst developed by Shijiazhuang Qihong New Material Technology Co.,Ltd, specially engineered to deliver a synergistic balance of gelation and blowing reactivity for versatile polyurethane (PU) formulations. As a specialty amine catalyst, it precisely regulates the crosslinking rate between isocyanates and polyols (gel reaction) while moderating the isocyanate-water foaming reaction, ensuring stable foam rise, uniform cell morphology, and consistent curing across diverse production scenarios.

This catalyst features excellent hydrolytic stability, low odor profile, and outstanding compatibility with polyether polyols, polyester polyols, and conventional PU additives. It minimizes common processing defects such as foam collapse, shrinkage, and density inconsistency, while boosting the mechanical strength and dimensional stability of finished PU products. Designed for seamless integration into automated batching systems, QHAD-A38 enables precise metering and reproducible manufacturing outcomes.

3. Application

QHAD-A38 is a multi-purpose catalyst suitable for a broad spectrum of polyurethane foam and molding applications, with core usage covering both rigid and flexible foam manufacturing:

  • Rigid Polyurethane Foams: Ideal for insulation foams used in refrigerators, freezers, building insulation panels, spray foam insulation, and pipe insulation. Enhances adhesion, thermal insulation efficiency, and structural integrity.
  • Flexible & Semi-Rigid PU Foams: Applied in furniture cushions, bedding foams, automotive interior components (headliners, door trim), and packaging foams, delivering softness uniformity and improved fatigue resistance.
  • Integral Skin & Molded Foams: Used for automotive steering wheels, armrests, shoe soles, and decorative PU parts, ensuring smooth surface finish and fast demolding.
  • PU Elastomers & Coatings: Supports curing of polyurethane elastomers, sealants, and protective coatings, balancing reactivity and final film hardness.
  • It can be used independently or blended with other amine catalysts, organotin catalysts, or blowing agents to fine-tune reaction kinetics and meet targeted foam performance requirements.

4. Storage & Handling

Storage Conditions

  • Store in sealed original containers in a dry, well-ventilated, and temperature-controlled warehouse, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, open flames, and static electricity.
  • Recommended storage temperature: 5 – 30°C. Avoid freezing; if crystallization or separation occurs due to low temperatures, gently heat and stir to restore homogeneity before use.
  • Keep separated from strong acids, oxidizing agents, and moisture to prevent catalytic activity degradation and product contamination.
  • Equip storage areas with spill containment measures and comply with local chemical safety and environmental regulations.

Shelf Life & Handling Tips

  • Unopened shelf life: 12 months under recommended storage conditions. Conduct performance verification prior to use if expired.
  • Reseal containers immediately after each use to minimize air and moisture contact.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, lab coat) during handling to avoid skin, eye, and respiratory exposure.
  • In case of accidental contact: Flush skin/eyes with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes; seek medical attention if irritation persists.
